Greetings, Jewel Keepers!

My name is J’nay Blackwell and I’m Journey’s mom.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I’m a proud graduate of the Cleveland Municipal School District and hold dual degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Cleveland State University. But more than anything, I am a mother, an advocate, and a storyteller.
My inspiration for Journey’s Jewels comes from my daughter, who is on the Autism spectrum. When she first communicated through song and visuals, I realized the power of connecting in unique ways. That moment sparked something in me—a desire to create stories where autistic children of color could see themselves, feel empowered, and know they are not alone.
Too often, neurodivergent Black children don’t see themselves represented in books and media. Through Journey’s Jewels, I want to change that. I want kids to celebrate what makes them different, embrace their strengths, and collect their own life "jewels" along the way.
Most of all, I hope readers of all ages enjoy this series as much as I’ve loved creating it. Whether you’re a child on the Autism spectrum, a parent, a teacher, advocate or just someone who loves a great story, I hope these books bring you joy, understanding, and inspiration.
Outside of writing, I love traveling, volunteering, and advocating for causes close to my heart. I also serve as a Board Member of My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland, a nonprofit that supports women impacted by cancer. My passion for inclusivity drives everything I do, and I hope my stories inspire children to discover the jewels within themselves.
